The Ocean

The men were amazed and asked, “What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the waves obey him?” Matt 8:27

This was Coulter’s favorite Bible verse.

From the beginning, Coulter loved the ocean.

Long before he knew of maritime archaeology, which would become his dream, he was drawn to the beauty, the mystery, and the adventure of the sea. He loved the crashing waves, the endless horizon, and the feeling that there was always more, waiting to be discovered.

Many of our favorite memories are of watching him stand quietly by the water, just taking it all in.

The ocean reminded him of something many of us forget: there is beauty and wonder in this world, if we slow down long enough to notice it.

Today, take a few moments to notice and stop to cherish something beautiful that you might otherwise have missed:

Crashing waves.

A sunset.

A mountain View.

Your child crawling into your lap.

A conversation with your teenager at dinner.

Your parent asking about your day, just for a chance to talk and connect with you.

The God who created the oceans also created you intentionally, lovingly, and with a purpose.

And just as the ocean is deeper than we can comprehend from the shore, so too is your Heavenly Father's love for you.
